My local pride

Today I'm going to write a continuation of my last post about my hometown.

However this time I’ll focus on famous places in my hometown. I told you my hometown is near the Minato-Mirai area already. So today I will introduce Minato-Mirai. Probably many people know this area., but I will give a general description of it for those who are near to the area.


This area was the blue sea in the past. Minato-Mirai area was designed as a large master-planned development and a new urban center to connect to Yokohama's traditionally important area in the 1980s. With the development of the Minato-Mirai area, the two city centers were linked and now form part of the business and central 'core' of Yokohama. The Minato-Mirai area has a lot of famous buildings. The highest tower in Japan was constructed in this area. But now this building is the third-tallest tower in Japan. It is called Yokohama Landmark tower. It has became a symbol of this area. I talked about Yokohama Landmark Tower in my last post. Minato-Mirai has some other famous landmarks.

One of the famous landmarks is Yokohama World Porters. This is a shopping center. and movie theater. Near this buildings is an amusement park called Yokohama Cosmo World. You can see the big ferris wheel from JR Sakuragicho Station. There are many rides and attractions.

Another famous symbol here is the ship. It is called Nippon Maru. It was a training ship for the cadets of the Japanese merchant marine. But now this ship has become a marine memorial museum since 1984.

The last famous landmark is Colette・Mare. It is a shopping center and business office. Recently this combined-use facility was constructed in this area. Colette・Mare also has a movie theater, so many people come here.

If you come to this area you can enjoy all day. You can see the beautiful scenery. You can hang out at an amusement park. You can also go shopping. Perhaps so many people already come to this area, but if you have an opportunity, please pay a visit to my hometown!
